BOOK REVIEW / BEFORE I FALL BY LAUREN OLIVER

by Rosemary Sweigart

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver is a young adult novel that does not follow the usual storyline of a high school novel. The story follows high school senior, Samantha, through the last day of her life over and over again in true Groundhog Day fashion. When a car crashes in the woods during on wintery February day, the reader is taken along with Samantha to discover what could have gone differently and what stays exactly the same. There are typical issues with boys and friends, but also a lot about discovering just how much your actions mean when you are a careless teenager just scraping by. The girls in this novel are crass, stubborn, and stuck up, but it is those imperfections that makes the story compelling and relatable.
